Sterling silver & 14K gold filled bead bracelet with lobster clasp, in a gift box (8mm & 4mm)

These bracelets are made with sterling silver and 14k gold filled findings.

These bracelets are handmade by myself.

Gold filled jewellery comprises a solid layer of gold (14k) permanently pressure bonded to a base metal, such as brass.  Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating.  Gold filled jewellery is much more valuable than jewellery that is gold plated.

In order for something to be considered gold filled, it must have a gold content of at least 1/20th the total weight of the item.

It is very hard wearing and under normal wear the gold will not peel or flake, unlike gold plate.  It won’t tarnish and will not rub off or turn colours.

Gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off.  14k gold filled jewellery, providing proper care is carried out, can last a lifetime.

Wearers who are sensitive to certain metals can wear gold filled without worries of an allergic reaction.

It is commonly used as a more affordable alternative to pure gold as although a gold filled piece of jewellery is not solid gold, it has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold.

If you want to check your own wrist size before ordering:

• Use a flexible measuring tape or piece of string, gently wrap it around your wrist, just below the wrist-bone, in the same place where you would place a watch.
• Take a note of the measurement if using a measuring tape, or cut the string to the proper length. Then lay the string out straight and measure it using a ruler.
• Add ½” to the measurement to obtain the proper bracelet size.

Sterling silver  
By the very nature of sterling silver, there is no way to protect it from tarnishing because sterling silver reacts with so many materials found in everyday life. The best way to reduce tarnish build-up is to actually wear your sterling silver jewellery often. When sterling silver is not worn it tarnishes quickly. Unavoidable I'm afraid, but perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned by, and it can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth or polishing cream.

To ensure that it stays looking lovely, it’s best to keep treatment simple – by gently polishing with a soft, non-abrasive cloth.

It’s important to note that many chemicals marked for cleaning jewellery can be abrasive and damage 14k gold filled jewellery.
