Sterling silver & 14K gold filled fluted and smooth bead drop earrings, in a gift box (9058)

These earrings are made of 14k gold filled, 1/20th and 925 sterling silver.

Gold filled beads:  6mm, 4mm and 3mm
Sterling silver beads:  2mm

These earrings are handmade by myself.

Gold filled jewellery comprises a solid layer of gold (14k) permanently pressure bonded to a base metal, such as brass. Gold filled is not to be confused with gold plating. Gold filled jewellery is much more valuable than jewellery that is gold plated.

In order for something to be considered gold filled, it must have a gold content of at least 1/20th the total weight of the item.

It is very hard wearing and under normal wear the gold will not peel or flake, unlike gold plate. It won’t tarnish and will not rub off or turn colours.

Gold filled jewellery can be worn daily without fear of fading or rubbing off. 14k gold fill jewellery, providing proper care is carried out, can last a lifetime.

Wearers who are sensitive to certain metals can wear gold filled without worries of an allergic reaction.

It is commonly used as a more affordable alternative to pure gold as although a gold filled piece of jewellery is not solid gold, it has the same desirable properties and look of solid gold.

To ensure gold filled jewellery stays looking lovely, it’s best to keep treatment simple – by gently polishing with a soft, non-abrasive cloth. It’s important to note that many chemicals marked for cleaning jewellery can be abrasive and damage 14k gold filled jewellery.

By the very nature of sterling silver, there is no way to protect it from tarnishing because sterling silver reacts with so many materials found in everyday life. The best way to reduce tarnish build-up is to actually wear your sterling silver jewellery often. When sterling silver is not worn it tarnishes quickly. Unavoidable I'm afraid, but perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned by, and it can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth or polishing cream.
