Sterling silver and double sided Abalone shell beaded necklace - 18 inches/46cm long - with a lobster clasp. The shell markings can be different front and back.

This necklace comes in one length only, and is the actual necklace shown. It has been handmade by myself.

Nature is not perfect. Many natural shells have minor inclusions in them, which is perfectly normal and do not make the shells defective. Please be aware therefore, that if you require perfection, these are not for you. Nature is not perfect and no two pieces are identical.

Abalone shells are the shells of a group of sea snails or molluscs.  The colourful and iridescent inside of abalone shells makes Abalone a very attractive option for jewellery.

Abalone shell comes in a variety of different colours, from blue, green and black to pink and orange.  The cutting and polishing of the shell reveals a unique and striking colourful display on each shell. No two pieces of Abalone jewellery are the same.

Abalone is found worldwide. There are a number of abalone species, most are found in the cold waters of new Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, South America and the Caribbean.

Metaphysically, Abalone shells are used to enhance calm and to encourage peaceful transitions.

Caring for abalone: Abalone shell is not very hard, this means your Abalone jewellery will scratch easily and you should therefore take extra care to protect from damage. Ensure to store out of direct sunlight to prevent fading. Every now and then you may wish to wash your Abalone jewellery in warm water, but avoid using any harsh chemicals and this may effect the durability of the gemstone.

Please be mindful that despite always ensuring the photos I take for listings are accurate/true in colour, colours may differ slightly from monitor to monitor as not all screen resolutions are set the same.

By the very nature of sterling silver, there is no way to protect it from tarnishing because sterling silver reacts with so many materials found in everyday life. The best way to reduce tarnish build-up is to actually wear your sterling silver jewellery often. When sterling silver is not worn it tarnishes quickly. Unavoidable I'm afraid, but perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned by, and it can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth or polishing cream.
